Open to all Bubba Gump customers who would like to take on the challenge of the Nintendo Wii Ping Pong game (Mario & Sonic at the Olympics version), the tournament idea was inspired by the extraordinary ping-pong skills of Forrest Gump, the lead character of the 1994 Oscar Best Picture where the Bubba Gump restaurant is also based on.
Fans of the movie would remember Forrest Gump’s talent in the sport being discovered accidentally while he was injured from his duty in the US Army. He was even asked to join the all-American team that competed in the Olympics in China and was recognized for this by US President Nixon.

“We’ve thought of coming up with The Bubba Gump Whatta Weekend series that will feature entertaining activities for anyone who enjoys what Bubba Gump stands for, which is great food and fun. So, The Wii Ping Pong Tournament is just the first in this series and there will be more events soon,” says Edward Co, Vice President for Business Development of Shrimpworks, which owns and manages Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant & Market in the Philippines.
The Wii Ping Pong Tournament is open to all ages. For every PHP500 single-receipt purchase, customer gets a game stub for the tournament. A single-receipt purchase worth PHP1000 or more entitles customer to 2 game stubs. Only purchases on July 15-August 9, 2008 will be valid.
